A. LIBRARY SERVICES
OVERVIEW
Asian Institute of Computer Studies offers its students various library services and facilities to further meet the needs of its students. This section lists down these services, along with certain rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the efficiency, quality, and security of said services, for students to be able to maximize the benefits that the College would be able to offer them.
VISION
The Library Office envisioned itself to be the center for intellectual growth and development by providing complete and updated information and resources that would promote a love for learning for the development of the Philippine society.
MISSION
Strongly commits itselt as a responsive center by providing quality services to library users through excellent, relevant, organized, and fast delivery of information in all forms that will make them socially aware and responsible citizens of our country.
GOAL
To provide access to information to support the teaching, learning, and research of its clientele.
The Library will be responsive to client's needs, enrich their lives, advance their careers, and make them become lifelong learnets and more responsible citizens.
OBJECTIVES
To acquire updated books, periodicals, and non print materials which serve as tools of instruction, research, and learning in the subject areas covered by the curriculum.
To provide organized, ready, and easy access of library collection of both prit and non print materials to support the institutional needs of the academe, support the curriculum, and to deliver the individual needs of the students and faculty members.
To guide the readers in their choice of books and other materials in their learning interests both for curricular and personal purposes.
To develop an intelligent ad independent use of these materials in cooperation with the faculty.
To conduct library promotion through library instructio and orientation programs.
To participate in library consortium, linkages, and partnership that will create a good relationship with other libraries.
To plan and organize activities which are relevant to the library's vision and mission.
B. SERVICES OFFERED
Reference Service- to assist library users in the use of books and other printed materials, online resources and other collections. To assist on the use of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog).
Circulation Service- area in the library where library users can borrow, return, and renew books and other circulating materials at the circulation desk.
Online Reference and Information Service- this service provides e-resources, virtual assistance to the library users to help them in their information ne
Internet Service-allows to access information over the Internet.
Current Awareness Service- newly acquired materials are regularly informed through bulletin boards and social media flatforms. Announcements and other library information updates.
Library Orientation Service- aims to help students to better understand the role of the library in their quest for information.
C. LIBRARY HOURS
The library is open between the following time periods and days:
8:00am - 5:00pm
(Mondays to Fridays)
12:00nn - 1:00pm
(Lunch Break)
D. LIBRARY CARD
The Student ID also serves as the Library Card. This must be presented upon entering the library, and when borrowing and/or returning books. Temporary passes or any other alternative to the Student ID will not be permitted in the library.
E. BORROWING BOOKS AND OTHER PRINTED MATERIALS
Books are classified and arranged using the standard Library of Congress System (LC). To save time and resources, students may use the Online Public Access Cataloging (OPAC) as to what he/she is searching for, or he/she may inquire with the librarian. The Librarian would direct the student to the location where the books or references may be found. Labels are also found on the shelves to assist students in searching for their required materials. Library users may verify book classification based on the call number on the material, or they may inquire with the librarian for further clarification.
For Library-Use-Only such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other general references, reserved books, theses, journals, magazines, newspapers must be read inside the library only.
References- library users can go directly to the bookshelves and look for their needed books. Use the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) for searching available books in the library.
Circulation- materials that can be borrowed only on Fridays and should be returned the following Monday. A maximum of two (2) books are allowed to borrow at the same time.
Fiction- materials that can be borrowed for up to five days.
Library users are required to sign in the User’s Registration Form for statistical reports purposes.
Library users are required to sign the book cards placed at the back cover of the book, give it to the librarian and leave a valid school ID.
Photocopying and scanning of the printed library collections are subject to the rules on copyright and fair use.
F. RULES AND REGULATIONS
Only enrolled students, active faculty, and staff are allowed to use the College Library.
Outsiders or students who have not enrolled for the current term would only be allowed to use the facilities upon the approval of the head librarian.
Students must present his/her ID upon entering the premises, and upon borrowing and/or returning books. Under no circumstances would books be taken out without checking them out first.
Students must leave their bags in designated racks, before using the library facilities. Valuables such as wallets and phones, and any other materials such as notebooks and papers may be brought along. Only a maximum of two books of any nature may be borrowed at a time.
Borrowing books on behalf of others is not allowed. Anyone caught doing so will be charged with a minor offense.
Observe silence and proper decorum when within library premises.
Sleeping, eating, drinking, and smoking within the library premises are strictly prohibited.
Keep library premises clean and orderly. Arrange all chairs, place books in designated areas and shelves after use.
Please take care of all books and other equipment. Loss or damage of any materials shall incur replacement or repair charges.
Other materials such as globes and maps, among others, may be borrowed for classroom use and must be returned within the day. Any discourtesy towards the librarian/library staff implementing the rules and policies will be duly notified and reported to the Discipline Committee for appropriate action.
Borrowers with overdue books or with a standing obligation to the library will not be allowed to borrow unless all library accounts are settled.
G. SUSPENSION OF LIBRARY PRIVILEGES
The following shall be grounds for suspension of library privileges; library privileges will be suspended for the rest of the school year to the offender. The case shall also be referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further procedure and appropriate disciplinary action.
- Hiding or stealing of books and other library property.
- Vandalism or destruction of library property.
- Forging signatures and due dates.
- Tampering of valid Identification Card
- Taking out any library material without permission from the librarian.
- Lending of Identification card to other students for their use.
- Habitual delinquency.
- Boisterous behavior, discourtesy, misconduct or any misdemeanor towards the library staff.
The Head Librarian, or any authorized personnel, holds the right to deny a student entry and use, or the privilege to borrow books, should he/she be caught violating any of the rules listed above. Library privileges may be revoked from any time between one (1) week to one (1) semester, based on the discretion and recommended of the Head Librarian, with the written approval of the Office of Student Affairs.
H. LIBRARY FINES
Mutilation of printed materials is an offense punishable by payment of not less than Php 5.00 per page. Books that are returned late are subject to the overdue fines; a fine of Php 20.00 per book and per day is charged.
I. REMOTE ACCESS SERVICES
The AICS Library is committed to accessing e-services. Online materials such as eBooks, and e-journals, remain accessible and the librarians and library staff will remain available for service via email, chat, and other virtual mediums.
OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is an online bibliography of all library collections that is available to the students of AICS.
Library Website is an online library collection of open-source materials.
Social media -“AICS Virtual Reference Service” a Facebook group wherein students can ask queries or can read announcements and other information updates. Virtual Reference Service facility is used only for online library assistance. This includes answering ready reference questions, providing requests, responding to students’ concerns, and bibliographic verifications.
